For those light tackle fishermen who prefer staying on the inshore waters, rather than going out to the deep sea, we offer inshore fishing charters. On our inshore fishing trips, we fish around the bridges, fish cleaning docks, jettys that line the inlet, mangrove trees and other spots that we like to fish. Target species are jack crevalle, barracuda, tarpon, snook, sharks, goliath grouper and more. We generally try to use light tackle to catch these fish. The nice thing about fishing the Intracoastal Waterway is that the ocean is always calm, even when it is windy, so you don’t have to worry about seasickness.
There are a few different techniques that we employ on our inshore fishing charters. Sometimes we anchor the boat and chum the water, trying to draw the fish to us. We put out a few dead baits on the bottom, maybe float out a live bait or 2. This technique works well for tarpon, jacks and sometimes sharks. Another technique that we use for time to time is to slow troll live baits slowly along the docks that line the Intracoastal. This is a good technique to try for snook and barracuda, with an off chance at tarpon. And one other technique that we use mostly for our night trips, is to go from dock to dock which have the underwater lights and cast and retrieve our lures and jigs. The night technique is best for tarpon and snook.
While there is more variety to be caught fishing offshore Fort Lauderdale in the deep sea, there are many species, some of them very desirable, that can only be caught in the shallow waters of the Intracoastal Waterway. On our inshore charters, we don’t have much travel time to get out to fishing grounds, so a 4 hour half day trip is usually enough. We can do daytime or night time trips for inshore and I particularly enjoy night fishing as the sun and heat are no longer an issue, and both tarpon and snook are more aggressive nocturnally.
